The History of Brough Superior Motorcycles

The superior was the machine of legends.  It was an early superbike before the term was coined and was the “Rolls Royce” of the motorcycle world.

George Brough was also a master in the art of publicity, grabbing the best parts for his machines and truly making the whole bike greater than the sum of its parts.

Much of the legend came from performance by specific men and machines and from the showstoppers that George produced year after year for Olympia and Earls Court.

He also made machines he liked to ride, which may explain the gradual move from all out performance and total sports styling to high-speed sports tourers.  There was no such thing as a Standard Superior as for the price charged, there was very individual attention. 

There was a standard range, but this was really just the starting point from which the customer could refine the basic choice of SS80 or SS100 to the machine they wanted with an exact specification.  It was no wonder they were so expensive.

It is not surprising that the Brough story is full of specials for all people.  The best-known owner outside the world of motorcycling was T E Lawrence.  George was a perfectionist, and as a hard rider, one of the most stringent and critical inspectors of the machines that carried his name.  Many of his customers were friends and all would have their needs and wishes discussed before the machine was put in hand.

During the 1930’s, Brough used V twin JAP engines, prepared to the highest standard and the first was a relatively small one of 677cc with 70 x 80 dimensions.  It was an OHV and had a fair degree of go in it, but George said it was too small to be of interest.  In its basic form, it had a rigid frame and three-speed gearbox.  As the Black Alpine, it was normally supplied as a springer and with four speeds.

The market was small for small deluxe machines and only nine 500s were made.  It made sense for Brough to build bigger machines for more money.  It was also time for another stunning special to grab the headlines.  Whilst all the machines were special in one way or another, the works specials, one offs and prototypes were even more so.  For many, the most interesting were the various fours.

Brough Superior felt the pinch in the depression, so early in the year, they announced that the V twins could be bought without electrics, speedometer or number plates at a reduced price.  At the same time, they introduced two more side valve models.

It was perhaps only right that the company who used the slogan “Rolls Royce of the motorcycles” should do so much work for Rolls Royce during the war and were one of the very few entrusted to machine the Merlin crankshafts.

I own a vintage Morse 300 B-L Deluxe machine (blue in color). I've been looking all over the internet and have found little to no information about Morse machines.

Clear coat paint protection for cars and trucks has gone through many changes over the last several years. In the past, clear coat paint added luster and beauty to vehicles but when it became chipped and scratched it was still a hassle to get the clear coat restored and looking new again. Today, there is a new option called paint protection film and it opens up a new innovated way for auto owners to protect their investments.

Nevertheless, it's important to realize that eventually, it will need to be replaced. Fortunately, removing the film is a very easy process and a lot cheaper than repairing a damaged paint job.

Removing the old film will not damage the vehicle in any way. Once the old coat is removed it can be replaced with new film. Another great thing about paint protection film is that it can be applied to any part of the vehicle that needs to be protected such as, headlight and taillight covers, not just the painted parts of the car.

Paint protection film is one of the best options available today when it comes to protecting the paint on your car or truck. It won't prevent every problem that you might encounter but it can cut back on them. If you have a custom paint job, it's definitely something worth considering.

I am trying to set up an email and I am being asked to enter the letters that are shown in the box but there are no images being displayed. I need to know how I can correct this.

Click On Advanced.
Click On Reset or Restore Advanced settings, or Restore defaults button , depending on the version of windows you are using.
Click on Apply
Click on OK

Close the browser. By pressing the X mark at top right.
Then restart again.

Now you should be able to display images on your browser again.

Let's take a look at what many of the experts predict to be the best home business opportunity for the foreseeable future, the health and wellness industry. In order to do this, we need to understand a few important facts. To borrow data from one of my previously written pieces, the single largest consumer group today, possibly ever, is The Baby Boom Generation. It is generally agreed upon that this group is comprised of those men and women born at the end of the Second World War, through about 1967. Their buying power is in the $2 Trillion range or more. The age range of these individuals is between 40 and 65.

What industry do you suppose would possess the ability to capture the business of this large and powerful consumer group? Health and Wellness, of course. Any company that can anticipate and place itself in front of the buying trends of these folks will make a fortune over the next 10 to 20 years. What do people become interested in as they begin to reach middle age? They begin to focus on those products and lifestyle changes that will improve their overall health and well being. Presently, Health and Wellness is a $250 Billion Dollar a year industry and growing. Who would not want to capitalize on a business trend such as that?

Now, there is a very important difference between true consumer buying trends and fads. Fads are fleeting and fickle. They appear on the scene suddenly and vanish almost as quickly. If you are my age, you will recall the Rat Fink and Troll dolls in the 60's or the Pet Rock craze in the 70's.  I show my age here, but I remember when Hoola Hoops and Dick Tracy two way wrist radios were all the rage. Of course the clothing and fashion industries come to mind, as well. These fads come and go always replaced by some new craze. There is money to be made there for sure, but it will not last. By the time one can gear up and produce products to feed one of these fads, it's already about to fade. There are companies and entire industries capable of doing just that, but the average individual could never do so. There is simply not enough time to react and make it happen.

Trends are another matter, altogether. Understanding what produces long term consumer buying trends and then being able to anticipate and capitalize on them requires a good bit business knowledge and lots of research. The average person has neither the knowledge, the capacity, nor the financial resources, to undergo such a time consuming, exhaustive and expensive process.  Fortunately for folks like you and me there are companies who have already done the research and are ready and able to capitalize on the largest and probably the most lucrative market now and for quite some time to come, the Health and Wellness Industry.

In the face of the worst recession in recent memory, unemployment spiraling out of control, ever shrinking retirement accounts, mortgage foreclosures, government bail outs and stimulus packages in the news daily, people are becoming increasingly uncertain about their financial future. But for the Entrepreneur looking for a solid home business opportunity with the promise of stability and long term profitability, this is is not a time of gloom and doom. Quite to the contrary, it's the Mother Lode! Today's consumer is becoming more dollar-wise for sure, trimming the fat out of their budget, much less apt to spend their hard earned money on non-essentials, luxury items and fads. But remember those Boomers reaching middle age? The one area where they are not willing to compromise is their health and well being.

The advice of this Entrepreneur is this. Find a solid home business opportunity, with a company prepared to meet the health and wellness needs of the single largest consumer group today, and get in! Sure there's competition out there. But with 65 percent of the population in control of more than 2 Trillion consumer dollars and an industry doing $250 Billion a year and growing, I say so what! There's plenty of market share to go around.

That's my plan and I'm well on the way.  A couple of years from now I'll be sitting on the porch of my beach house on North Carolina's beautiful Outer Banks, cold drink in hand, listening to the waves as they crash to shore and contemplating on what a wonderful place God created, for me to enjoy. Money, retirement, recession, will not be what's on my mind. Say, I have a great idea! Why don't you join me. Pick the home business of your choice, or join mine, work it hard for a year or two or three, and then come join me. I'll have a cold one ready for you.

I have always been a fan of the in-game WoW leveling guide programs because they have made it very easy and fast to power level any toon horde or alliance. Hi, Roel! Given the two choices available, the new amplifier would definitely be the one to offer a significant improvement in tone. Switching potentiometers and capacitors will only produce a very subtle change (maybe even not to your liking!), and should be left for future experimentation (although pots and caps would only be about $20 for the parts, as compared to $600 for the amp!). The Vox AC15 is an amplifier that has received many positive reviews, and should serve you well; however, as is the case with many (arguably, most) amplifiers, the on-board effects leave a lot to be desired. Once you get into using effects as part of your signature sound, that is where the pedals and multi-effects processors have the edge. Since you already have a decent processor, you are covered! You may still want to play through the PA if there are other instruments involved, using a microphone in front of the cabinet. You would not be able to use a direct-box interface, since the Vox AC15 does not have a "preamp out" connection (no effects loop).
