To the naturally fair-skinned: Aren't you tired of being told that you need to spend more time in the sun?

I am. Some people simply have skin that resists tanning. I could wreck my skin trying to get a tan, and I'd still not be much darker. I've spent over a thousand dollars treating burst capillaries with lasers and creams caused by sun exposure, and I get a rash on more sensitive areas such as my neck/chest and back on my legs within ten minutes if I don't wear good sunscreen, but yet, I get told that I would look so great with a tan, and I need to go to the beach more. Grrrrr! People need to accept that not everybody has the same skin type, and that they are all equal. It's akin to racism, really.

I tried to tan when I was in my teens.... big mistake. I regret every moment that I didn't use sunscreen. I am now very comfortable with my fair skin. Most of my friends tell me they love it - and besides, it's not like I have a choice

All skin tones are beautiful -- you are made the way you are for a reason. My dark skinned friends don't try to be lighter, so why should I try to tan? And no, I don't like the fake stuff. The last thing I want is to look orange like Paris Hilton.

What is the best course for an acoustic guitar beginner

Learning to play the guitar is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life but it was also one of the hardest. The reason that I became proficient with my instrument is simple. I practiced, and I practiced a lot; every day in my bedroom from the age of 16 (I’m 25 now). I spent most of my time practicing the fundamentals: running up and down scales, changing chords and trying to improve my repertoire of songs.

Sometimes it was easy to make time to practice because I was in a good mood and I really wanted to play. At those times I could spend hours just listening to how cool it sounded when I changed from the chord D to the chord G. But on other days it was my discipline and desire to play and improve that made me practice and develop as a player.

There are two main factors when it comes to discipline in practice: practicing regularly and practicing well. Both of these are important to address.

Practicing regularly is the most obvious and easy to do. Basically you should play the guitar every day. These don’t need to be mammoth, three hour long sessions. 30 minutes will generally be fine if you are focused during that time. Doing regular, small amounts of practice is far better than going all out for hours once a week. I know that in a busy life it can be hard to make the time to practice but honestly 30 minutes a day is achievable for anyone. There is no set time that is best to practice but I prefer to do it in the evening simply because I find playing the guitar is a relaxing way to wind down after a stressful day.

Practicing badly is a more common and difficult to address problem. This is something that affects even the most experienced player. This problem has several causes and solutions.

• Playing the same thing over and over every time you play. I am a firm believer that you should play something perfectly before you move on. BUT, once you know how to play something you need to move on and keep challenging yourself.

• The opposite is also a problem: moving on too quickly. You should practice so that you play a piece well before you go on to the next thing. Playing perfectly and accurately is an excellent habit for any musicians to have.

• Not focusing on developing all parts of your musicianship when you are practicing. I like to split my playing into parts. For example I might spend 5 minutes practicing new scales or chords, 10 minutes working on writing new music for myself and maybe 15 minutes learning a new song or part of a song.

• Playing things too fast when you first try and learn them. This can cause you to become disillusioned with your playing when you are trying to learn a new song. Most guitarists, including myself try playing a song at a slow speed before trying it a fast pace.

Practicing properly and regularly is the best way to become good at anything including playing the guitar. This requires discipline. Not only discipline to practice regularly, but also discipline to stay focused and on track when you are practicing. If you stay disciplined with your playing you will develop in to an excellent player.

what would be a Beginner Acoustic Guitar to start with?

I been wanting to start playing but i don't know where to start if anyone can guide me to the right direction..

i was also thinking of picking up a Takamine S35 Jasmine Acoustic Guitar i read a lot of good reviews about it but i'm not sure.

The Takamine S35 Jasmine can be had for $85 on Amazon.com and is better than the $85 guitar you will find at Wal-Mart or the local music shop. But will you like the sound? What I recommend is: go to a music store and try out a few guitars. Even if you can't play, just strum them. Find the sound that you like. Then find someone who is a guitar player and tell them the make, model and price of the guitar(s) that you liked. Probably you are going to like the sound of some very expensive guitars. But you can get other guitars with a similar style of sound at a lower price by doing some research with your guitar player friend and the Internet. There are also many acoustic guitar demos on You Tube and you can hear many makes and models played for you on good audio equipment.

I would also recommend that you buy a used guitar as guitars sound better as the wood ages and you will get a $400 sound while spending only $150 or $200. The worst thing to do is to go to WalMart or Kohl's and buy a guitar for $80. Likewise every music shop has a starter guitar for under $100 and they are almost always junk and have no resale value. Get a good quality used guitar with great sound that you will enjoy and can sell for close to the same price you bought it for.

Two great brands with reasonable prices are Washburn and Alvarez. I recommend their guitars are better than others but they have some good starter guitars that can be found on the Inernet for $150 to $250 (new) and they sound great. Or better yet go to Ebay and get a used or factory second model.
